22nd Century Citizens

In January 2010 the young people from Oldham Theatre Workshop, Oldham Youth Council and the Oldham Children in Care Council flew to Poland to reflect on one of the most disturbing episodes in European history.

The teenagers teamed up with a group of Polish schoolchildren during their stay, which also incorporated harrowing visits to the Auschwitz concentration camp and the ghetto in Krakow.

This emotional journey gave the young people an insight into the traumatic lives and deaths of thousands prisoners of war.

Currently the group are now expanding their research to look into the history of Oldham's own prisoner of war camp, which stood at the Glen Mill in Wellyhole Street, and incorporate this into a multi media play, featuring poetry, photography and music.

The experiences and memories will be explored and exhibited in prominent local areas, to be shared by everyone. This is currently an ongoing process, and further updates will be posted on the website ......

..... In the meantime, check out the fantastic photography below, these images by OTW in-house professional photographer Lewis Wileman truly capture a remarkable trip of a lifetime.
